Just got the new IKEA catalog. Very thick and colorful. Then an idea hit me: Use it for speaking triggers for some themes, such as colors, directions/placements, furniture, likes/dislikes, describe&listen activities. You can probably think of more, but these are the ones that come to my mind right now.
This is probably not a new idea. We've all used pictures. What I hate about having to keep pictures is that I could never find them. I am not the most organized person, but I can usually find what I need. My problem is the number of different preps I have makes it tough for me to have everyone laid out. I just don't have room for them. I've also considered cutting out magazine pages, but I think keeping the whole magazines and catalogs are what will work for me.
I also don't like the project the picture I have for the whole class, that is too "uniform". If I can get more catalogs and magazines, I can just have 2 kids grab one, and off they go. They don't have to speak in complete sentences all the time, it really depends on the activity.
If we are just learning vocabulary words about colors/furniture/tableware, then the kids can just point and pronounce to his/her partner. For example, 紅色,藍色。They can also say descriptive phrases, such as 紅色的椅子。
If we are learning about placement/directions, then the students can speak in short or phrases. For example, 盤子在桌子上面。
If we are learning about houses/apartments and furniture, then one kid will describe while the other kid will draw out the room based on what s/he has heard.
I don't have loose paper/images any more. I'll just collect them as time goes on and keep them on my book Cart. Marvelous.
